It was a day like any other. Stephanie woke up and looked at her alarm. It seemed that she woke up about a half an hour before it. Stephanie sighed, knowing sleeping in wouldn’t be worth it at this point. Grumpily, she got out of bed and began to change into clothes. For today was another day of school, a place she very much dreaded. Her best friend, Cynthia, had been out sick all week, and Stephanie was pretty sure she wouldn’t be back today, either. But for some reason, today felt… different…

Stephanie went into the bathroom and began her usual routine: putting on make-up, adjusting her favorite headband, and brushing her hair. As she brushed it, she wondered if she should dye it. Stephanie had always been self-conscious about her hair. It was naturally green and as such, would often get questions or funny looks relating to it. Nevertheless, she finished getting ready and went downstairs to get herself breakfast.

When she got to the kitchen, she observed her mom and dad preparing Molly, her little sister for school, and
Bethany, her older sister, sitting on the couch in the living room, just like any other day. Stephanie could only grunt at the image before her. Ever since Molly had been born, she almost never got attention from her family. It always seemed to be about her sisters, no matter the situation. Perhaps this was why she had become so bitter over the years.

Wanting to avoid conflict, she simply got herself a cereal bar. Stephanie then got her backpack and phone, preparing to leave early. “Hey,” she exclaimed. “I’m leaving now. So, bye.” There was no response. Stephanie was used to this. Solemnly, she shut the door behind her and made her way to school.

As she walked towards school, she began pondering many things. "They say middle children tend to be peacemakers," Stephanie thought. "How come I didn't turn out that way?" Stephanie looked towards her side, only to remember Cynthia was out sick. "Maybe she's just far behind," Stephanie pondered. "I did leave early after all." Then, the feeling from before filled Stephanie again. It's like as if was saying, "You don't have to be alone. That's because today, you will find another reason to be happy." Stephanie did her best to ignore this and trudged onward.

Though it seemed like forever, she eventually arrived at school.  As she walked to her homeroom, she glanced and quietly snarled at all the couples she saw. For her, dating was a sign that someone actually cared about you, something that she had forgotten about a very long time ago. She would also occasionally
get confused glances aimed towards her. She assumed this is likely because of her hair color or because of her overall personality. Stephanie had already gotten used to this, but she knew deep down that this would likely never change, causing her to become more upset.

When she finally got to her homeroom, she desperately looked around for Cynthia, who luckily was in the same class as her that period, luckily. No such luck. Then again, Stephanie did arrive early. But even after class began, not once did Cynthia show her face. Stephanie already knew it would be another long and empty day, especially since Cynthia wasn’t around. After class, Stephanie went over to her teacher. "Hey, excuse me?" Stephanie asked. "Do you know where Cynthia is? She's not at a doctor's appointment or anything, is she?"

"No," her teacher responded. "Her parents called her in sick again. That poor girl. Not only must she feel miserable, she will have to make up so much homework." Stephanie pouted at this reply. She always went over to Cynthia's house to give her the homework she missed, and she was pretty sure her teacher knew this fact.

Stephanie was already starting to get annoyed. However, she knew arguing wouldn't solve this issue. Hell, she would probably get detention for it; maybe even worse. She simply slung her backpack on her shoulder and prepared to walk out the door. "Thank you anyway," Stephanie solemnly said as she opened the door for herself.

As the day went on, the feeling within her became more and more consistent. It began to teem within her, almost to the point where she wanted to scream. It kept saying things such as "Today will be much different", and "You don't have to be lonely anymore from now on." One of these quotes stuck out to her: "Stop trying to block me out, you freaking alien."

Eventually, lunch time came. She had just finished an English quiz, was very exhausted, and didn’t want anything to do with anyone’s problems. As she was getting the lunch she packed herself, she heard a voice behind her. “Hey, guys! I found an alien!” It said. Stephanie simply rolled her eyes and decided to not pay much attention to this remark, suspecting the comment was for someone else.

“Hey, we’re talking to you,” the voice said, this time closer. Stephanie turned around to see a tall, blonde boy. Next to him was a brunette boy and a tan-skinned boy with grayish-black hair. Stephanie didn't know much about these boys, but at the very least knew their names.

The first boy, Chad, was a tall kid with blonde hair and braces. He was also quite the narcissist. To the left of him was a minor named Richard, but went by the nickname Dick. He wasn't as tall as his friends, but was just as nasty as them. Finally, the third adolescent was a darker skinned teen named Vincent. Unlike the other two, his hair was longer, reaching about shoulder length.

Stephanie just gave them an uninterested stare for a few seconds. “A clique, perhaps?” She thought to herself. Stephanie turned around and closed her locker. “I’m busy,” she finally responded.

“Heh, nice hair color,” Dick taunted. “Did you dye it?”

Stephanie tended to get this question a lot. And every time, she told the truth. “It’s my natural hair color, actually.” Stephanie pulled a strand of her vibrant, green hair and began to talk again. "But to be honest, I am considering dying it."

“You shouldn't,” Vincent remarked. “It's fitting for an alien like you." With this line, the other two teenagers broke out laughing. Stephanie was beginning to get angry at this point.

Stephanie knew her hair color was weird, especially since it was what she was born with. True, she was quite self-conscious about it, but she wouldn't let these rude remarks just simply fly by. “Can you please leave me alone?” Stephanie reprimanded, glaring.

“Or what?” Vincent asked. “Are you gonna cry?” The other two boys burst out laughing again.

Stephanie had no time for this. She was already being bullied by her younger sister at home, and that was bad enough, if not worse. She began to walk away, but then tripped. As she suspected, one of three kids caused it to happen. “Oops!” Chad bellowed. As this was happening, a much smaller kid was watching from the distance.

Stephanie began to feel on the verge of tears at this point. However, she tried to put on a brave face and stand up to them. She got up, brushed herself off, and got into a stance in which she couldn’t be pushed down. However, as she was doing this, someone pushed her from behind, making her fall. At this point, Stephanie wanted to give up. Suddenly, a much younger sounding voiced chimed in. “Hey, leave her alone!”  It demanded.

The bullies turned their heads to see who was telling them to stop it. They were in Stephanie’s way, so she couldn’t see what was going on. “Hmph, stay out of this, shorty,” one of them said, pushing them down. Then the three boys walked away. Stephanie saw a small figure in front of her. She flinched, thinking they were going to harm her, too. Then, the figure reassured her.

“Hey, are you alright?” They asked. Stephanie open her eyes to see who was speaking to her. To her surprise, it was a young boy who seemed about her age. He had golden-brown hair with a cowlick that had the tip sticking up in the air. Something about him was different from other boys she had met, but she didn’t know why.

“Hey, are you alright?” He asked. “Your face is all red.” Shocked at this comment, Stephanie quickly turned away.

“Y-yeah. Of course,” she responded. At this point, she could barely get out any words without stammering.

“Here. Let me help you up,” the boy said. Stephanie turned around to take the boy’s hand. When their hands met, he finally introduced himself.  "I'm Billy! It's nice to meet ya'! What might your name be?" He cocked his head to the side as he said that last sentence.

Stephanie was at a loss for words. How long had it been since someone besides her best friend was this nice to her? It must've been so long that she forgot. Finally, she muttered out the words necessary to continue the conversation. "S-Stephanie," she replied averting her eyes to the ground.

Billy helped her up, and to her surprise, he was quite small, even smaller than she was. Not that it was a bad thing, but it was still a bit taken back. Then again, she was wearing high heels, so she may be a close size to him without her even knowing. "I know. I'm short, right? I get that a lot," Billy jested. "I think we still have time until our next classes start. How about I take you to the nurse's office?" He asked.

Stephanie's eyes seemed to flash with reassurance with this line of dialogue. "F-fine, weirdo," she responded.

With that, Billy placed her right arm on his shoulder as he guided her to the nurse's office. And, for a final time, the voice she had heard before was now overflowing within her. It was like it was saying, "Today was the day. No way around it." And, for the first time in what seemed like forever, Stephanie remembered how to feel an emotion she was sure she forgot about long ago. Love.

Welcome to another story relating to my OCs miserable (actually no so miserable) lives. In today's story, we look about Stephanie's past and how she met Billy.

Stephanie deserves more love.
